Not only did Carrie Underwood show off her vocal talents at President Donald Trump’s inauguration on Monday, but she also gave a masterclass in professionalism.
Chosen to perform “America the Beautiful” at the U.S. Capitol Rotunda, Underwood was escorted inside, ready to sing her heart out in front of Trump, his family, politicians, and a slew of celebrities. But there was just one small hiccup—the instrumental track decided to take the day off.
Without missing a beat, Underwood figured out what was going wrong, and in true “American Idol” fashion, turned the situation into an impromptu solo performance. “If you know the words, help me out here,” she said, before launching into an a cappella rendition of the song.
The crowd went wild on social media, praising how she handled the unexpected moment. One fan summed it up perfectly: “This pretty much sums up the spirit of America. When you’re faced with a problem, you don’t stop. You keep moving ahead—proudly. Kudos to @carrieunderwood. Well done!”
